Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) works to advance equality with respect to sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression through the inclusion of people of all genders, including women, in Canada’s economic, social, and political life. One way that WAGE does this is through the National Strategy To Combat Human Trafficking.

National Strategy To Combat Human Trafficking

In September 2019, the National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking (National Strategy) was launched. Through the National Strategy, WAGE created a Human Trafficking Initiative, under the new Empowerment Pillar.

Empowerment Pillar’s objectives

The Empowerment Pillar’s objective is to support victims and survivors to regain control of their lives through increased funding for community-led empowerment initiatives to help address some of the root causes of human trafficking, as well as harms experienced by victims and survivors through holistic and trauma-informed supports that will help survivors regain their independence, reintegrate into their communities, and begin their healing and recovery process.

Objective

The objective of this call for proposals is to support eligible organizations in developing and implementing promising prevention or intervention practices that will advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for at-risk populations and survivors of human trafficking.
