Roberta Bondar

In 1992, Dr. Roberta Bondar became the first Canadian woman astronaut to be sent into space. A respected neurologist, medical researcher and educator, Bondar is also an accomplished pilot, professional fine art landscape photographer, author, environmentalist and motivational speaker. Following her years as an astronaut, she served for more than a decade as NASA's head of space medicine. An inspiring leader and role model, Bondar is an Officer of the Order of Canada, appointee to the Order of Ontario and holds the NASA Space Medal. She has been inducted into the International Women's Forum Hall of Fame and the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and has received 24 honorary doctorates.
